Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. Then, update your journal and answer the following questions:

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

[personal profile] stellar_dust gave me Star Trek, Sailor Moon, and United States of Tara; [personal profile] sarcasticsra gave me Fake News, Good Omens, and Doctor Who.

01: What got you into Star Trek fandom in the first place? Dad. (That's my answer for just about every sci-fi series. Red Dwarf, Star Wars, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Doctor Who...) I had seen a couple selected episodes from various classic series, and then when Enterprise started he had us all sit down and watch it. (By recording it on VHS! Old-school!)

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? I don't know how in the fandom I am, exactly. I think it's a good series/franchise, and will watch an episode/movie if the opportunity presents itself, but I don't actively seek out the canon, much less the fandom.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? A Night In Sickbay, The Seventh, Stigma, and Twilight. Basically, anything that has T'Pol and Archer being awesome together. (Because first-two-seasons!T'Pol is one of my favorite characters ever, and I ship it like I'm FedEx.)

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? I made this one vid. (It got an award at the 2008 Seventh Fleet Film Festival :D) And...that's about it.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? *looks at entire Internet exploding over new movie* ...do I have a choice?

01: What got you into Sailor Moon fandom in the first place? Sailor Moon is how I discovered fandom. I watched it on Toonami (Cartoon Network's now-retired awesome-action-shows block) starting when I was eleven years old. Then I went online to see if anyone else had heard of it...and, whoa, there were lots of people! And lots of websites! And pictures! And fanfiction! And extra sailors I hadn't heard of! And dozens of episodes that hadn't been translated! Oh, man, it was epic.

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? Sailor Moon is never going to leave me. It's basically the bedrock for my fannish (and, to some extent, fictional) experience. Neil Gaiman has this piece about how Doctor Who infected him young. That's what Sailor Moon did to me. (Probably picking up where Oz left off.) It told me that all the myths are true in some form, that girls can be pretty and awesome and individual and tough, that you beat the bad guys not by stooping to their level but by remaining good and loving and true, and that you too can tap into the magic if you just find the right talking cat.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? I'm weak for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (the live-action TV series). It's as if, in retelling the story for the third or fourth time, it finally coalesced. There's inter-episode continuity on a level that the anime never had. Also, the later volumes of the manga reach gorgeous and epic heights that I've never seen before or since.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? I used to write reams of otaku senshi fic. These days I don't do a lot with Sailor Moon on its own, but it has a way of seeping into everything else I do: Doctor Who, Hellsing, the Daily Show, the presidential campaign, the Arabic language...

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? Basically, I think everyone should know Sailor Moon. I think it should be required pop culture background, the way everyone knows about Darth Vader or hobbits or "live long and prosper."

01: What got you into United States of Tara fandom in the first place? I have no idea. A while before it premiered, I saw some article discussing this upcoming show, and how the writers were doing serious legwork in trying to get the DID right. And then at some point I thought "You know, I should look that up again." So I did, and there were a couple of episodes available to torrent, and the rest is history.

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? No idea. It's a tiny fandom, with only a handful of active people. But the show has been renewed for a second season, so I'm sticking around for the forseeable future.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? The whole show? It's only twelve half-hour episodes; I'm not ready to start picking favorites yet.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? I discuss with wild enthusiasm; I draw (see icon); I have a fanmix sitting on the back burner. May well be writing fic eventually. We'll see.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? YES. Admittedly, the content isn't for everyone: DID is almost always correlated with severe childhood abuse, which the show seems to be heading towards revealing; and some people have expressed distaste for the idea of a show about DID in the first place. On the other hand, there are at least a few multiples in [livejournal.com profile] us_of_tara who are enjoying the show. So if you don't mind the premise, come on in; the writing's strong and the acting fantastic.

01: What got you into fake news fandom in the first place? That would be [livejournal.com profile] johnxjohn, the original Kerry/Edwards comm. It was my first experience with political RPF. I thought it was cracktastically awesome. And everyone there seemed to be big fans of some guy named Jon Stewart...

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? After five years of sustained activity...yeah, I don't think I'm going anywhere.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? A Colbert Christmas; the Wørds "Expecting" and "Back Off, Old Man"; the whole saga of the Conan fight ("STEPHEN COLBERT, DON'T YOU DO IT, BOY!"); anything with Bobby; anything with time travel; the 2006 Midterm Midtacular, especially the tosses; pretty much every other toss, come to think of it.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Ad nauseam.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? Why else have I tried to lure in as many Doctor Who fans/mix downloaders/random YouTube browsers/Shine readers as possible?

01: What got you into Good Omens fandom in the first place? A good friend of mine brought the book in to anime club and said he thought I would like it. I started borrowing it during meetings. I read it in chunks over several weeks, so I spent a lot of time forgetting things that had happened earlier and not really understanding what was going on. It was hilarious enough that I didn't care.

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? Will always be a fan.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? There's only one book, so I'll say...the book.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? I've written a couple of ficlets, but other than that, my participation in the fandom is mostly in the form of lurking, and slipping random allusions to it in other things.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? Always.

01: What got you into Doctor Who fandom in the first place? Basically the same as the Star Trek answer, except replace Enterprise with NewWho (and VHS with GigaPocket, and "old school!" with "tech!").

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? I hover at the edges of the fandom, and I enthusiastically embrace the Whovian element at sci-fi cons, and I suspect I'll continue to do so for a long time.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? I'm a big fan of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Where's the love? Also, anything with Romana I, Leela, and Donna is probably awesome. (Except Journey's End, which has myriad problems which I will not rant about here.)

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Am always up for discussion. Most of my fanworks are crossovers (the Doctor dropping in on Shine; Stephen crashing the TARDIS).

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? This is another one that I think should be a pop-culture requirement. The Eye of Harmony should be as generally well-known as the One Ring.

Sailor Moon
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place? It was September 11, 1995. (I checked the date on SMUncensored -- I didn't know this off the top of my head!) I had just gotten home from kindergarten and watched the last fifteen minutes of Dudley the Dragon and was waiting for Casper the Friendly Ghost to come on. When all of a sudden... it was some weirdo show instead! And it was so bad! And I HATED it! Why wasn't it CASPERRR?

... and then I kept watching and the rest was history.

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? Already moved on.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? Manga tankubon 11 -- The Lover of Princess Kaguya.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? No.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? No. It has enough squealing fangirls and fourteen-year-old incompetents.

Serial Experiments Lain
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place? I read a review of it on some anime review site I was into, downloaded it on Kazaa, watched a few episodes and bought the DVDs bootleg on Amazon.

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? Pretty much moved on already.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? I really like the manga short, The Nightmare of Fabrication (available here (http://www.cjas.org/~leng/lmanga.htm)). Among the best quality of Lain works as far as I'm concerned. I also really like the episodes ... well, I like almost all of them to be honest, but "Girls", "Rumours" and "Ego" stand out.

04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? Not exactly. There isn't much of a "fandom" for it anyway.

05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? No, there isn't that much to be said about it.

Cybersix:
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place? Um, it came on Teletoon late at night when I was eleven.
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on? I'm not even really "into it". I just kinda like it.
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.? The last one... SNIFF.
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)? There is no real fandom for this either.
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom? Um, if that would get the comics translated into English, or a remake of the cartoon targeted at adults, then sure.

For reference, what I would call my "fandoms" are Cowboy Bebop, Coraline, V for Vendetta, Transmetropolitan, His Dark Materials, Lain and Twili... no, just kidding.
